Federal Parent PLUS Loans

Federal PLUS Loans are available to parents who wish to help their child pay for college. With a PLUS Loan, parents may borrow up to the full cost of a student's education, including tuition, room and board, books and supplies, transportation, and living expenses, less any other financial aid. 

If you need assistance with a Federal Stafford Loan, please refer to the Stafford Loan application you received by mail from the GW Office of Student Financial Assistance. Please contact us with any questions at (202) 994-6620.

  Step 1 — Selecting your lender and completing the Parent PLUS Loan Data Form

C. For a lender not listed:

You are free to choose any lender that participates in the FFEL program, even if they are not listed above. Follow the steps below:

  1. Complete the PLUS MPN online as described in step 2, but do not insert a lender name or code, and do not sign electronically. Print the PLUS MPN. Alternatively you may request a paper PLUS MPN be mailed to you by contacting the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
  2. Complete the Lender Information Sheet.
  3. Write in the lender name and lender code of your chosen lender, and sign the MPN.
  4. Mail the following to our office:

    • The original signed MPN
    • Lender Information Sheet
    • PLUS Loan Data Form

Please remember that by choosing a lender not participating with GW in disbursing via EFT, your loan will be disbursed by paper check, requiring endorsement by the borrower each semester.

If you have questions about your PLUS credit approval results, please contact your lender directly. 

  Step 2 — Complete your PLUS Master Promissory Note online

PLEASE NOTE: If you are choosing a lender other than those listed above you cannot electronically sign the PLUS MPN online. You must print out the PLUS MPN and physically sign and mail to our office with the appropriate accompanying documents.

  Step 3 — Mail your form(s) to the GW Office of Student Financial Assistance

Once you have completed your PLUS application, GW will certify your loan. In addition to completing the Master Promissory Note online, please be sure to complete the PLUS Loan Data Form and send it to the GW Office of Student Financial Assistance.  If you did not receive this form in the mail, please contact our office at (202) 994-6620.

Once the loan is certified, we will send an award notification to the student listing the PLUS loan as part of the award package.
